What do schools think?

Rhian Grieves - Deputy Headteacher Ysgol Cybi

"What CELS can offer is above and beyond ‘normal’ lessons. It’s wrong that children in every  school don’t get these chances to become stronger young people.

In the beginning we hear ‘I can’t’, and only a few children were able to tackle things and not be afraid to fail. They learn that it’s good to fail – it doesn’t make them weak it makes them stronger. The way the lessons are run them through Cymraeg, builds such a positive relationship, they are such strong role models, which many unfortunately don’t have.

Over the 36 weeks, they take the time to learn who they are, their personalities, their needs and areas they know they want to develop.  Some young people come to school because of the CELS lessons, they look forward to the day and the activities that are planned for them.  The children share their experiences with their parents/carers, it can change the families' views on school and education.  The parents and carers are invited in for the end of year Graduation – sharing the celebration of their childs’ success together. The staff love to see our children grow and develop their characters and so do the parents and carers too.  The graduation and celebration is a very special day!"
